Professional Career Path and AHSCA Membership
To begin a professional career in Hydraulic Services Consulting our best advice would be to first consider education. Considering this and enrolling in a suitable starting course (Certificate of Engineering – Hydraulic Services Design, otherwise known as Certificate 4), you would then qualify for Student membership of the AHSCA. From Student membership you can advance to Associate membership and then Full membership. This is necessary because the AHSCA is the recognised professional body which forms the basis for Hydraulic Services Consultants.
For Student membership of the Association the following requirements apply:
- Enrolment in Certificate of Engineering – Hydraulic Services Design or other equivalent stream of recognised qualification
- Seek employment with a recognised Hydraulic Services practice
For Associate membership of the Association the following requirements apply:
- Experience - 2 years full time experience employed by a recognised Hydraulic Services practice and currently employed by a recognised Hydraulic Services practice
- Minimum Qualification held – Certificate of Engineering - Hydraulic Services Design
- Enrolled in and Studying for Diploma of Engineering - Hydraulic Services Design
For Full membership of the Association the following requirements apply:
- Experience - 6 years full time experience employed by a recognised Hydraulic Services practice and currently employed by a recognised Hydraulic Services practice
- Minimum Qualification held – Diploma of Engineering - Hydraulic Services Design
To begin the process and help to fulfill the above requirements we recommend you contact several Hydraulic Services consulting firms regarding employment as a trainee consultant simultaneous to enrolling in the training courses mentioned above.
Courses of study and training are available through SkillsTech Australia www.skillstech.tafe.qld.gov.au
Please note the AHSCA WA Chapter has a scholarship known as the AHSCA Engineering Scholarship for Diploma of Engineering students.
All information provided is a basic overview of requirements and doesn’t cover all aspects and may be subject to change by the Association, however we hope this helps you understand the processes.
